KB Johnson and the Susan G Komen Foundation
K.B. Johnson Oil & Gas Company and Susan G. Komen
for the Cure®NC
Triangle team up to promote
breast cancer awareness.
(Fuquay-Varina, NC)- K.B. Johnson Oil & Gas Company has made a “colorful” addition to its fleet of delivery vehicles. Not only does the new truck burn clean, efficient propane gas, it is painted and customized pink and white to raise awareness for Susan G. Komen for the Cure® NC Triangle affiliate.
To promote breast cancer awareness and to raise funds for Komen NC Triangle, K.B. Johnson will donate 1 cent for
every gallon of gas sold from the truck. The propane trucks, or “bobtails” as
they are known, are common sights on the roads and highways as they
make deliveries to millions of homes, schools, farms, and businesses
across the country and around the world. What makes this truck so different
is the fact that it is painted “pink,” not the color you
would normally associate with most propane delivery trucks. “When
we were looking at different organizations to partner with, we considered
several worthwhile ones, but could never get over the fact that the ‘pink’ would
create the most awareness on the highway,” said Kemp C. Johnson
of K.B. Johnson Oil & Gas. “Also Komen NC Triangle Affiliate has a local presence, and the money
raised will have an immediate impact on the residents of our service
area. We want people to stop, look, and ask the question, ‘What’s
that all about?’”
Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is the world’s leading breast cancer charity, with more than $1 billion invested since 1982. Susan G. Komen fought breast cancer with her heart, body, and soul. Throughout her diagnosis, treatments, and endless days in the hospital, she spent her time thinking of ways to make life better for other women battling breast cancer instead of worrying about her own situation. That concern for others continued even as Susan neared the end of her fight. Moved by Susan’s compassion for others and committed to making a difference, Nancy G. Brinker promised her sister that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In the NC Triangle area, Komen has awarded more than $8 million in community grants since their first Race for the Cure® in 1997.
The most important part of the campaign is to raise the awareness level and promote the message that “Early detection saves lives.” This message is prominently displayed on the side of the truck and will be the central theme of the campaign. “We want everyone to consider the impact that breast cancer has had on someone they know or love and remember that there is a way for them to help. K.B. Johnson wants to use our resources and visibility of the truck as a tool to stimulate fundraising and awareness that early detection saves lives.”
“Our employees and customers have been very excited and supportive
of this campaign,” said Johnson. “We will be using the
truck to make deliveries throughout our service area and plan
to display it at community events, parades, and other gatherings.”
