Not only will doing all this help set you up for a successful grilling season and help ensure that your grill is good to be fired up whenever you feel like grilling, but you will also find yourself needing to replace your propane cylinder less often.

Help your propane cylinder last by storing it safely

A grill tank that is stored safely and properly will last longer than one that is improperly stored. Here is what you need to know when it comes to tank storage:

• A propane cylinder should only be stored outside in a well-ventilated area that is out of direct sunlight and a safe distance away from your house and any other potentially flammable items and materials.
• Keep tanks on a level surface and upright at all times.
• Do not put a tank directly on the ground. Instead keep it on a board or something similar. This will help prevent it from getting rusty.

Help your propane cylinder last by transporting and handling it correctly

If and when you need to put your propane cylinder in your vehicle to transport it we recommend you follow these tips:

• Make sure your tank’s valve is closed and plugged before moving it anywhere.
• Keep it upright at all times.
• Ideally you would put your grill tank in a truck bed since these offer the best ventilation. If you don’t have this option and you have to put your cylinder in your car keep your windows down while you’re driving.
• Do not leave your grill tank in an enclosed vehicle.
• Do not make any stops on your way home from filling up your propane cylinder.

Help your propane cylinder last with proper maintenance

Propane and routine maintenance is key when it comes to the longevity of your grill tank. Let’s take a look at exactly what that means:

• When possible, use low or medium heating settings while you’re grilling. This will help you conserve your fuel.
• Reduce wear and tear by closing and turning off the valve on your grill tank when your grill is not in use.
• Check your tank for leaks on a regular basis.
• Track your fuel levels with either a gauge or a tank scale.
• Do not let moisture accumulate on your grill tank as this can cause rust.
