Five Advantages of Using a Propane Gas Grill
Elevate Your Outdoor Living Space with a Grill from K.B. Johnson Oil & Gas
When spring finally arrives here in Central North Carolina, countless homeowners can’t wait to fire up their propane grills. In fact, a recent survey conducted by the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association showed that 61% of American grillers use propane over the alternatives. That’s a significant share.
So what exactly makes propane such a popular choice for grilling? Well, there are quite a few reasons. Let’s take a look at what they are and how K.B. Johnson Oil & Gas can help you with your grill’s fuel needs.
What Makes Propane Grills a Great Choice?
Propane grills outshine the alternatives in multiple areas. Here are five benefits of using propane gas grills:
- Convenience: There are a couple of different aspects of propane gas grills that offer homeowners a superior level of convenience. First, a propane grill lights and is ready for cooking almost instantly with the simple twist of a knob. A charcoal grill requires you to wait while it heats up. This is particularly important for those nights when you’re rushing to get dinner on the table. Charcoal grills also create a lot of soot and ash that needs to be cleaned up when you’re done grilling. This is completely eliminated when you use a gas grill. Cleaning up after using a propane grill is a much simpler and quicker process.
- Healthier food and cleaner air: Both charcoal briquettes and lighter fluid release a certain amount of toxins into the food that gets cooked on a charcoal grill. Since you don’t use lighter fluid or charcoal when you use propane grills, you aren’t cooking with the toxins that come along with this equipment. Propane also burns cleaner than charcoal does, which means that a propane-powered grill releases fewer emissions into the air. This helps improve air quality.
- Precise temperature control and even heat distribution: Propane grills offer precise temperature control, as well as consistent and even heating. This helps a chef at any level perfect the steaks, hamburgers, and chicken that they are firing up.
- Reliability: Since propane grills don’t require electricity or power grids to operate, you will still be able to use them during a blackout. No one will have to go hungry!
- Cost savings: The efficiency that gas grills offer ends up equating to nice cost savings for homeowners.
How to Replace a Propane Cylinder
Refueling gas grills is a simple and fast process. This is yet another advantage of propane grills.
When the time comes to swap out an empty grill tank for a full one, you should:
- Put on protective gear, including goggles and gloves.
- Check to see if your cylinder has any damage or leaks.
- Make sure your grill is completely shut off and that your tank’s valve is completely closed.
- Turn your grill’s pressure regulator to the left and remove it.
- Loosen your grill’s restraining bolt, if your grill has one.
- Take the old cylinder out of the storage compartment and replace it with a full cylinder.
- Tighten the restraining bolt, if your grill has one.
- Put the cylinder’s pressure regulator on the valve and tighten it.
- Perform a leak test by spraying the cylinder’s valve and your grill’s regulator with soapy water. If you see bubbles after opening the valve, you either have a leak or a loose connection. Re-tighten all the connections, perform another test, and open the valve again. If you still see bubbles, you should replace the cylinder or your grill’s hose.
