How to Use a Gas Grill for Tailgating

How to Use a Gas Grill for Tailgating

Follow these tips from K.B. Johnson Oil & Gas

gas grill Raleigh, NCGrilled hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken sandwiches have become staples to a tailgating experience. For many people, gas grills have become the number one way to cook this food while you’re waiting for the big game to start. And there are plenty of reasons why this is the case.

Portable propane grills are easy and very manageable to transport and bring to a tailgate. There is no need to haul around heavy bags of charcoal and wait for these coals to heat up the way you would have to with a charcoal grill. Instead, propane grills are ready to use almost instantly.

A gas grill also provides precise temperature control and even heat distribution, which helps ensure that whatever you’re cooking before the game is cooked perfectly.

With a propane grill you also don’t have to worry about all the soot, ash and mess that comes along with a charcoal grill. The people next to you at your tailgate will certainly thank you for this!

With all these benefits it seems worth it to know how to use a gas grill for tailgating, right? Here at K.B. Johnson Oil & Gas we definitely think so, which is why we’ve put together the below tips for grilling with a gas grill.

Bring the right supplies

In addition to bringing your gas grill to a tailgate, you should also make sure that you have enough fuel to do your cooking, utensils, a meat thermometer and a cooler to preserve your food until you’re ready to grill it.

You should also bring some cleaning supplies, including garbage bags, paper towels, dish soap and a grill brush.

Set up safely

You should, of course, follow safety protocols when it comes to setting up your gas grill once at your tailgate.

Gas grills should go on level surfaces that are a safe distance from any potential sources of ignition and cars. Make sure that you have either a fire extinguisher or bucket of water near your grill and do not leave your grill unattended at any point while it is being used. Kids should be kept far away from grills while they are on.

Clean your grill & pack properly

Before you head into the game make sure you clean your grill’s grates. If you don’t, you’ll have a much harder time cleaning up the remains of your cooking later on.

You want to let your grill cool down before you pack it up and put it back in your car or truck. You can speed this process up by keeping the grill’s hood open for a little while once you’re done using it.

When you arrive back to your vehicle put your grill tank in a secure spot and in an upright position so that it can’t roll around as you’re driving home.
