Tips from K.B. Johnson Oil & Gas
Here at K.B. Johnson Oil & Gas, we offer our customers a propane cylinder refill service.
Home or business owners who use portable propane tanks can bring them to the propane cylinder filling station that is located next to our showroom in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. We also have two propane cylinder refill partner locations.
Refilling a portable tank is a better value than exchanging it. Cylinder exchanges charge restocking fees and hit you with all sorts of additional charges. You also completely forfeit any fuel that is left in a tank that you exchange. When you refill a tank, you only pay for the fuel that is added to that tank.
Since refilling a propane cylinder is an option, and such a good one at that, it is in every customer’s best interest to try to make their cylinders last as long as possible.
K.B. Johnson Oil & Gas has the following suggestions on how you can do that.
Tips for Extending the Lifespan of Your Grill Tank
- Properly maintain your propane cylinder
- It is best to use low or medium heat settings when you’re grilling. This will help you conserve fuel.
- Prevent rust from forming on your tank by keeping it dry and moisture-free.
- Close and turn off the valve on your grill tank when you’re not using your grill. This will help reduce wear and tear.
- Use a gauge or a tank scale to track your fuel levels and help prevent a fuel run-out.
- Check your tank for leaks on a routine basis.
- Store your tank safely and properly
- The storage area for your grill tanks should be outside in a well-ventilated area that is out of direct sunlight and a safe distance away from any potential sources of ignition.
- Tanks should remain upright at all times and on a level surface.
- Instead of putting tanks directly on the ground, put them on a concrete slab or something else that isn’t flammable. This will help keep them from getting rusty.
- Use safety precautions when transporting your tank
- Before you move a grill tank anywhere, make sure the valve is closed and plugged.
- Keep tanks upright throughout transport.
- The best place in a vehicle to put a propane cylinder is a truck bed. However, if your vehicle doesn’t have a truck bed, put your cylinder in your car and roll down the windows so that your car stays ventilated.
- Do not leave your grill tank in an enclosed vehicle for any period of time.
- After you refill your cylinder, go directly home. Do not make any stops along the way.
